ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Though hardships are meant to bind people and keep them from succeeding, hardships did not bind, but they defined this motivational speaker/activist/counselor.  Meagan McLeod was born June 13, 1977 in a single parent home in an urban setting in Philadelphia, Pa.  During her early years, drugs and violence surrounded her. There were times when Meagan remembers her mother grabbing children in the house as bullets riddled the streets as a result of gang violence.  Even through these many distractions, they did not destroy the dreams that Meagan McLeod had since the age of five.

Those dreams led to the world of Entertainment.  Meagan recalls every night dreaming about some aspect of Entertainment, whether it was television, music, or theater.  “I remember praying since the age of seven for God to give me a path that led to me becoming a success in the Entertainment field.”  Things did not become better through the years.  After the death of her grandparents, it became increasingly harder for her mother to care for she and her older sister.   There were times when there was no hot water or electricity. But Meagan always had a feeling that she was meant for bigger and better no matter what circumstances enveloped her thoughts and her surroundings.  Meagan’s background was one that, when read on paper, would be written off as another African-American young female whose chances of success were iffy.  But Meagan McLeod always saw her worth.  This is concurrently a title of one of her motivational speeches, “Do you know your worth?”

“A person knowing their worth is essential to that persons success.”  Well, by knowing her worth Meagan McLeod went on to tackle the world of Entertainment.  Through her tenacity, perseverance, and charming personality, Meagan soon made a name for herself in Entertainment.  She interned at a record company in London, England while attending Temple University.   Then she began interning at Power 99 (WUSL) her junior year in college and through her hard work and constant thirst to learn more, the Program Director offered her a position to become her assistant upon graduation.  She has held many positions since her career started in Entertainment but her passions have led her to another career.

A career where her mission is to build leaders, out of those who society has forgotten or has written off as being just another… thug, poor white trash, pregnant teenager etc.   “I have figured out that my career in Entertainment was not for me to become a well known record exec but it was to act as a testimony to show others that you can do anything you want to do.  You do not have to have a background of great wealth or a great family, you just have to have faith, and prepare, and prepare again.”

Where will Meagan McLeod be in ten years? “I don’t know how to answer that question. I do know that within those ten years I hope to have touched many people and made some of them realize that they are leaders right where they stand”
